We looked at the Acrylic studs available on the piercing market, and rejected the material out of hand. It is brittle and therefore breaks easily - think about the tongue - Bioflex is flexible and won't break. Acrylic studs are supplied in a set length, and if you try to cut them, they are likely to shatter. BioFlex can be cut with a simple sharp blade. It can therefore be cut to the length that you want to fit your piercing. Acrylic stud ends are BIG. A BioFlex tongue labret, or stud will protect your teeth - something we know is concerning the Dental profession. It you have a tongue piercing, you will know what I'm talking about, regarding your bottom teeth. Similarly, a lip pierced with BioFlex will not damage the gums and teeth in the way that metal does..
