The Side Facing is generally adapted for naval belly button or ear piercings where the jewel must face forward while the ring goes in the other direction.

The guage is 1.6mm (or 14G US).
The Front Facing is generally adapted for nipple piercing or any other piercing where the jewel must face forward.
